 Hello!

This is a tutorial is for anyone out there just getting started with wire.  Have you ever wondered how to create a one-of-a-kind clasp?  This post will help you create a clasp that can be used in your next bracelet or necklace design.  All you need is a length of 16-gauge wire and your usual arsenal of tools!  Let’s get started……

I hope this quick tutorial is helpful.  Let me reiterate one of the final tips that I mention - using a tumbler.  My tumbler has to be my absolute favorite “tool” when working with wire.   If you give your clasps a good tumble (an hour or so), you’ll have a nice and sturdy clasp to be proud of.  Please send me an email if you need further clarification on any part of this tutorial.  I aim to please.

I've been wanting to know how to make my own clasps, so thank you for this tutorial. I also would like to know what kind of tumbler to use.

Thank you everyone for your comments on the clasps, and to Lori for reposting this tutorial. You'll see it is so easy once you try it!

I get asked about the tumbler quite frequently (and it is the BEST investment ever!!). I use a Lortone tumbler - which is a professional tumbler, not the rock tumbler variety found at the craft stores. Lortone tumblers can be found online - I bought mine years ago from Connie Fox's website, Jatayu. She still carries them in her shop, along with great instructions. :-)

Oops. My only immediate source of wire is Hobby Lobby & they don't have any of the 16mm wire. I found a couple of places online to order...do you have a favorite place to find it? I'm really interested in the bronze.
